About this role
This per diem, rotating Surgical First Assistant role supports the surgeon under supervision during intraoperative work. The first assistant helps with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and may perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, and closure
- Provide intraoperative technical functions within validated first assistant skills
- Perform preoperative and postoperative duties as needed
- Ensure appropriate equipment is available and review permit to confirm procedure
- Assist with moving and positioning patient and provide support throughout procedures
Technical Overview
The technical scope includes first-assistant surgical tasks within validated skills from approved training and applicable regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include ensuring surgical readiness (equipment availability and permit confirmation), assisting with patient positioning, and supporting a range of surgical techniques.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with at least 3 years of scrub and/or assisting experience. They are AHA BLS certified and have CAAHEP-accredited training, with the ability to support the surgeon in exposure, hemostasis, and closure while managing surgical equipment and patient positioning.
