About this role
The Compliance Specialist will help develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role coordinates compliance and loan reviews, supports audits, monitors regulatory guidance changes, and provides recommendations to strengthen the organization’s compliance culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and gather information for quarterly compliance reviews, loan reviews, and the internal audit program; collaborate to resolve identified weaknesses
- Take appropriate action to improve the effectiveness and/or efficiency of the Compliance Management Program
- Work with Learning and Development to ensure staff complete appropriate compliance training
- Monitor guidance and bulletins issued by government regulatory agencies and industry groups; identify impact of new regulations and advise management on viable control options
- Assist Risk Management with ongoing review and update of policies and risk assessments; prepare summary reports for Board of Directors / Supervisory Committee review
Technical Overview
This is a compliance and governance role focused on monitoring regulatory agencies’ guidance and bulletins, assessing the impact of emerging regulations, and recommending control options. The specialist also supports policy and risk assessment updates and produces summary reporting for the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a compliance-focused professional who can support the development and maintenance of comprehensive compliance programs for a financial institution. They should have experience performing compliance risk assessments, coordinating quarterly compliance and loan reviews, analyzing test results, and supporting audits and regulatory guidance updates. Strong cross-functional communication skills are essential to provide clear guidance, training coordination, and recommendations to management.
