About this role
Director of Special Servicing oversees CMBS loan portfolios, REO resolutions, and workout strategies, ensuring high recoveries and compliance across client engagements. This role combines senior leadership with deep technical knowledge of real estate finance and servicing agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of special servicing portfolio
- Negotiate and implement resolutions for underperforming loans
- Analyze property cash flows and valuations
- Review third-party reports and approvals
- Lead and mentor asset management team
Technical Overview
Focus is on real estate finance, asset disposition, and complex workout strategies rather than software engineering.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an executive-level CMBS servicing professional with 15+ years of CRE industry experience, strong leadership and negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of REO, foreclosures, and bankruptcy processes. They should be able to manage client relationships and guide asset resolution strategies across multiple deals.
Must-Have Skills
Bachelor’s degree with a preferred field of study; AccountingFinanceReal Estate; MBA preferred or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum of 15+ years of industry and/or relevant experiencetypically with 2+ years in an SVP level role or external equivalent.5+ years of experience managing asset managers is preferred5+ years of experience in CMBS Special Servicing is required.Experience in Commercial Real EstateREO resolutions and workout strategies with strong understanding of foreclosures processeslitigation and bankruptcy law preferredStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong negotiating skills and strong understanding of complicated loan structures.Experience in understanding CMBS servicing agreements.Experience in understanding real estate valuation methodologyanalyzing income and expense rates and property valuation
