About this role
You will work in Xcel Energy’s Distribution Controls and SCADA group to help manage equipment on the distribution system. The role focuses on developing protection and control logic, testing and piloting devices, building DNP Maps and templates, and supporting field crews and ADMS integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update Protection and Logic in distribution controls for new features/issues
- Pilot new devices and help lead pilots
- Test new devices in the lab and create templates and DNP Maps
- Write guides to program/troubleshoot devices in the field and support field crews
- Assist getting equipment into ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) and select communication equipment
Technical Overview
The position is centered on distribution SCADA and controls engineering, including protection and logic development, lab testing of new devices, and creation of DNP Maps and programming/troubleshooting guides. It also involves field engineering oversight activities such as commissioning, testing, and inspections, along with integration into Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and selection of communication equipment.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an entry-to-senior level engineer who can support distribution SCADA and distribution controls work, including developing Protection and Logic, creating DNP Maps, and supporting device pilots. They should be comfortable testing devices in a lab environment and providing field engineering support such as commissioning, inspections, and troubleshooting with strong documentation and technical judgment.
