Lead Cloud Engineer role accountable for installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting Starbucks Engineering Platform technologies. The position focuses on designing and operating a secure, scalable, cost-efficient Kubernetes platform on Microsoft Azure using AKS and GitOps/DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) platforms at scale
Build and maintain a secure, multi-tenant Kubernetes platform with reliability, performance, and scalability
Own Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, upgrades, capacity planning, and operational health
Design and operate Kubernetes-native solutions using Argo CD/Argo Workflows (GitOps) and Istio (service mesh)
Drive an automation-first approach using Terraform, Azure Bicep, Crossplane, and Python with Azure DevOps CI/CD/GitOps workflows

Technical Overview

Build and operate an AKS-based, secure multi-tenant Kubernetes platform with Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, upgrades, and capacity planning. Use Argo CD/Argo Workflows for GitOps and continuous delivery, Istio for service mesh (traffic, security, observability), and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, Azure Bicep, and Crossplane; automate with Python and CI/CD via Azure DevOps.

The ideal candidate is a lead cloud engineer and Kubernetes expert with deep Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) experience. They have built and operated secure, scalable, cost-efficient multi-tenant Kubernetes platforms on Microsoft Azure, leveraging GitOps (Argo CD/Argo Workflows), Istio, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Azure Bicep, Crossplane) with CI/CD using Azure DevOps.
