About this role
AECOM is seeking a mid-career Geotechnical Engineer in Providence, RI to support water, wastewater treatment, and flood protection projects. The role emphasizes technical leadership, responsible charge, and mentorship of junior-level engineers under Registered Professional Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform assignments for geotechnical exploration using standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
- Assess geotechnical conditions and design geotechnical engineering solutions for water and wastewater facilities
- Develop geotechnical exploration plans and select soil improvement techniques and foundation support systems
- Provide direct responsible charge, guidance, and mentorship to junior-level geotechnical engineers
- Serve as technical lead for the Geotechnical Engineering department and provide geotechnical guidance as required
Technical Overview
You will perform geotechnical exploration and assess geotechnical conditions, developing and designing geotechnical engineering solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities. Responsibilities include selecting soil improvement techniques, defining foundation support systems, and leading geotechnical exploration plan development and guidance for existing facilities.

The ideal candidate is a mid-career Geotechnical Engineer with 4+ years of experience performing geotechnical exploration and assessing subsurface conditions for water and wastewater treatment projects and flood protection. They provide strong engineering judgment on geotechnical exploration plans, soil improvement techniques, and foundation support systems, and they are capable of direct responsible charge, mentoring junior engineers, and serving as technical lead under a department head.
