Own surfacing and cosmetic finish work for robot exterior parts, translating design direction into production-ready Class A surfaces. Partner with design engineers and tooling vendors to ensure CMF decisions and finish specifications succeed through tooling and manufacturing.

  • Own Class A surface development for injection molded exterior parts
  • Ensure DFM compliance (draft, wall thickness, parting line strategy) during surfacing and tooling development
  • Define and document cosmetic finish specifications and maintain CMF documentation for production approval
  • Collaborate with tooling vendors and surface finish suppliers to source and evaluate finish/texture options
  • Support design reviews and NPI by preparing visual references, annotated models, and finish sample boards

Develop and refine production-intent 3D CAD for injection molded parts while maintaining DFM-compliance (draft, wall thickness, and parting line strategy). Manage cosmetic finish and CMF documentation (materials, color standards, finish samples, approval criteria) and support first article cosmetic inspection and design reviews throughout NPI.

The ideal candidate is an industrial designer experienced in Class A surface development for injection molded exterior parts. They can translate design intent into production-ready CAD, manage cosmetic finish specifications and CMF documentation, and collaborate effectively with tooling vendors through sample reviews and design approvals.
