Senior Mechanical Engineer role in CommScope’s Automation Team designing and building custom automation equipment for fiber optic product manufacturing. The position includes feasibility studies, mechanical system design, prototyping and bench testing, documentation, and leading commissioning with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost analyses, and risk assessments for automation projects
- Design and develop mechanical systems for automation equipment
- Build, prototype, and test semi-automated fiber optics manufacturing equipment
- Prepare complete design documentation packages (drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, maintenance guidelines)
- Lead design reviews and oversee project timelines, budgets, deliverables through commissioning
Technical Overview
Hands-on mechanical engineering for automation equipment: conduct feasibility/cost/risk assessments, design mechanical systems, develop semi-automated equipment for fiber optics manufacturing, and qualify equipment through testing and commissioning. Uses SolidWorks CAD software plus analysis tools like Excel and Minitab, with strong GD&T/tolerance and documentation (drawings, BOMs, assembly and maintenance guidance).
