About this role

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern located in Roanoke, VA for Summer 2026. The intern will support preparation of Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) engineering drawings, assist with field investigations, and contribute to design and construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare architectural/engineering drawings related to Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) engineering systems
Help deliver complete, accurate, and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters
Perform field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents
Perform construction administration duties such as shop drawing review
Work within a project team environment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an active undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with at least 1 year completed, starting Summer 2026. They are comfortable learning and producing architectural/engineering drawings for Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) systems and assisting with field investigations and construction document updates. Strong communication skills and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are expected, with Revit as a plus.
