About this role
This is a municipal Network Engineer role responsible for installing, managing, and troubleshooting the city’s inter-network systems, including LANs and WANs. The engineer provides first level help desk support, maintains core network services like DHCP and DNS, and supports legacy server and desktop environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate network installations and upgrades
- Provide first level support via the Technology and Innovation (T&I) Help Desk
- Diagnose and remediate network problems by determining probable cause and implementing solutions
- Install and maintain network services including DHCP and DNS
- Support server and desktop environments including Novell NetWare, Microsoft NT, Win9.x, and MS-Office
Technical Overview
The position covers network operations and problem analysis with responsibilities spanning cabling audits/certification, MACS coordination, and troubleshooting for PCs, printers, file/print servers, and network equipment. It also includes server installations and network services such as print, file, security, backup, Email, DHCP, DNS, and platform support for Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an on-site network engineer with strong experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting LANs and WANs. They are comfortable providing first level network support through a help desk, diagnosing network issues, and supporting core network services like DHCP and DNS across legacy platforms such as Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT.
