This Network Engineer job supports installation, management, and troubleshooting of the city’s inter-networks, including LANs and WANs. It includes first level support via the Technology and Innovation (T&I) Help Desk, plus ongoing operation of network services like DHCP and DNS.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate network installation and upgrades
Provide first level support through the Technology and Innovation (T&I) Help Desk
Diagnose and implement solutions for network problems
Install and maintain network services including DHCP and DNS
Support server and desktop software environments including Novell NetWare, Microsoft NT, Win9.x, and MS-Office

Technical Overview

The technical scope includes MACS coordination, cabling audits/certification, and network problem analysis for PCs, printers, file/print servers, and network equipment. Responsibilities also cover server/network service installations and upgrades, including print, file, security, backup, Email, DHCP, DNS, and support for Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an on-site network engineer with strong experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting LANs and WANs for a municipal environment. They can provide first level help desk support, diagnose likely causes of network problems, and maintain essential network services such as DHCP and DNS on legacy platforms like Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT.
