About this role
Nurse Extern - Med Surg is a developmental program for nursing students to build varied clinical skills across multiple specialties. The extern supports Registered Nursing staff by assisting with patient care activities, including observation and reporting significant findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient care support activities
- Participate in patient care planning and implementation (as assigned)
- Perform observation and evaluation and report significant observations to a Registered Nurse
- Participate in guided training and development program
- Support multiple nursing specialties clinical experience
Technical Overview
The role focuses on clinical support under guided training aligned to State-specific Board of Nursing scope outlines. Required certification is AHA BLS (Basic Life Support), and core activities include observation, evaluation, and documentation/reporting of significant observations to a Registered Nurse.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an RN nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited RN program and has completed the first clinical rotation.
