About this role

At Cloudera, we seek a Principal Engineer to lead the Observability Telemetry client infrastructure as the architect for a self-service, OpenTelemetry-based ecosystem. The role focuses on scalable telemetry across multi-cloud environments, with a strong emphasis on correlating signals for customers and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Architect automated on-ramps for observability clients across multi-cloud, hybrid environments
enforce semantic conventions for telemetry data
develop interfaces/SDKs across languages
stitch signals into unified traces for analysis
work with engineering teams to deliver production-ready telemetry platform

Technical Overview

You will define semantic conventions for logs, metrics, and traces, develop efficient interfaces and SDKs for multiple languages, and stitch signals into unified traces for workload analysis and governance. Kubernetes-native observability and ClickHouse/StarRocks experience are key.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a ten-plus year veteran in distributed systems and observability with deep OpenTelemetry experience and leadership ability to influence across organizations. They should design a self-service, multi-cloud telemetry fabric capable of supporting thousands of clients and large-scale data estates.
