About this role
AECOM seeks an experienced Principal Geotechnical / Dams Engineer in Phoenix, AZ to lead the geotechnical engineering practice. The role will direct dam-related projects (dams, levees, hydropower), supervise technical staff, support project management, and drive business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee field exploration/characterization and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
- Provide technical support to dams Project Managers (design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, regulatory compliance).
- Oversee slope stability and seepage analyses and design slope stabilization measures.
- Conduct/oversee dam construction oversight and prepare technical reports including independent dam safety inspections and failure mode analyses.
- Lead business development and mentor junior staff; perform Independent Technical Reviews.

The ideal candidate is a senior Principal Geotechnical / Dams Engineer with 8+ years of related experience and a Professional Engineer's (PE) license. They have demonstrated leadership directing dams-related projects, including field exploration, laboratory testing, slope stability and seepage analyses, dam safety inspections, and construction observation, plus strong business development ability.
