About this role
This Process Operator Intern role supports the Billings Refinery operations team by applying process plant technology knowledge in the workplace. Interns shadow experienced employees, learn safety/health/environment hazards, observe permit and energy isolation processes, and participate in monitoring normal operational conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow and support experienced employees while following safety, health, environmental, maintenance, and operation practices and procedures
- Learn health safety and environmental hazards and recognize/report incidents and near-misses
- Witness the work authorization permit system and energy isolation (Lock, Tag & Try)
- Learn the overall process unit and monitor normal operational conditions
- Communicate effectively and work in a team environment, including rotating shifts and overtime
Technical Overview
The internship includes learning process unit operations, observing the work authorization permit system, and witnessing energy isolation (Lock, Tag & Try). It also requires reading technical procedures in English and becoming familiar with computer software associated with process operations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a current student enrolled in a Process Plant Technology Associate's Degree program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who is ready for a hands-on refinery internship. They communicate clearly, follow safety/health/environment practices, can work rotating shifts, and are comfortable learning process operations including energy isolation via Lock, Tag & Try.
