Builds and improves the query optimization and execution layer for Aurora DSQL. The role focuses on algorithms and architecture-level work across the database internals stack, delivering performance, durability, cost, and security improvements.

Technical Overview
Aurora DSQL is a serverless distributed SQL database with active-active high availability and strong consistency. This role designs and implements query optimization algorithms, cost-based optimization strategies, and core execution engine improvements, with an emphasis on testing, deployment, metrics, automation, and root-cause defect resolution.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an SDE-II engineer with hands-on experience in database system internals and query optimizer architectures, specifically around query optimization and execution engine improvements. They can design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain distributed SQL features (Aurora DSQL) with an emphasis on high availability, cost-based optimization, and continuous defect/root-cause improvement.
