About this role
AECOM is hiring a Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer for the Los Angeles, CA geo-civil team. The role supports geotechnical projects from planning through construction while also contributing to project management and local business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop field exploration programs (soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing, geotechnical instrumentation).
- Supervise geotechnical design and construction inspection for retaining walls, ground improvement, foundations, dams, levees, slopes, and tunnels.
- Use specified computer programs for geotechnical analyses and prepare/review geotechnical work plans and Geotechnical Reports.
- Review design plans/specifications for geotechnical recommendation compliance and communicate improvement recommendations across disciplines.
- Support project management (scope, schedule, budget) and mentor/train junior engineers while meeting clients and supporting proposals.
Technical Overview
The job involves developing field exploration programs (borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing, and instrumentation), supervising geotechnical design and construction inspection, and producing/reviewing geotechnical work plans and reports. It requires geotechnical analyses using tools such as GeoStudio Suite, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, APILE, Plaxis, Settle3, DeepSoil, and preferred FLAC 9.0 for SSI modeling.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer with 6+ years of Civil, Structural, and/or Geotechnical Engineering experience and a valid driver's license, holding a California PE license or able to obtain it within 6 months. They have strong geotechnical design and construction inspection experience using tools such as GeoStudio Suite, Plaxis, and DeepSoil, and can support project management and business development for Southern California clients.
