AECOM is hiring a Senior Signal Engineer for its World Class Rail Team in the New York Metro Region. The role focuses on designing and implementing rail train control systems (ATC/PTC/ATS/ATP/ATO/SSI and related signaling) and supporting installation, testing, and commissioning.

  • Develop and review design plans and technical specifications
  • Coordinate designs across disciplines and communicate with suppliers/contractors/clients
  • Support installation, testing, and commissioning of rail signaling including ATC/PTC/CBTC
  • Develop detailed signal designs including at grade railroad crossing warning systems and traffic preemption
  • Perform feasibility studies including braking calculations, control tables, routes/aspects, schematics, and phasing plans

You will develop and review design plans and technical specifications, including detailed signal designs such as at-grade railroad crossing warning systems and traffic preemption functions. The work includes Vital and non-vital processor programming, feasibility studies (braking calculations, control tables, routes/aspects, schematics, phasing plans), and end-to-end support of rail signaling installation and commissioning for ATC/PTC/CBTC.

The ideal candidate is a senior signal engineer with 10+ years of experience designing Train Control Systems and supporting rail signaling projects end-to-end from planning and design through installation and commissioning. They have hands-on experience with Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications Based Train Control (CBTC), including vital/non-vital processor programming and route/aspect chart development.
