About this role
The Inpatient Auditor performs quality assurance reviews of internal and external inpatient coders. The role validates correct abstraction into client electronic medical record systems using ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, UHDDS, and CMS directives, and audits POA indicators per AHA guidelines while identifying query needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete scheduled quality assurance reviews for internal teams and external client organizations
- Conduct onboarding audits and training for newly hired inpatient coders
- Deliver training sessions and educational feedback to coders and client teams
- Communicate quality issues and audit findings to management and client contacts
- Assist in drafting, implementing, and monitoring quality improvement action plans for coders
Technical Overview
This is an inpatient coding QA function focused on compliance and accuracy. The work includes ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS guideline adherence, UHDDS and CMS directives validation, POA indicator auditing, and HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information across client EMR workflows.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced inpatient coding/auditing professional who can perform quality assurance reviews and onboarding audits for inpatient coders. They are highly accurate with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, understand UHDDS and CMS directives, and can validate Present on Admission (POA) indicators using AHA POA guidelines while providing clear educational feedback.
