Position Details
About this role
Diagnose, maintain, install, and repair smelter process equipment and related mechanical systems at Freeport-McMoRan. The role includes preventative maintenance, basic welding tasks (as required), and training/mentoring other employees, with occasional fill-in supervisory coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic, replacement, and repairs on smelter process and mechanical equipment
- Execute mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, boom trucks, loaders, and small mobile equipment
- Prioritize and decide on equipment repair actions as needed
- Train and mentor other employees; fill-in supervisor duties as required
Technical Overview
Hands-on industrial mechanical diagnostics and repair across anode plant, mold plant, converter, and acid plant equipment, including hydraulic and conveyor systems. Work involves troubleshooting and fixing components such as gear boxes, pumps, fans, conveyor belts, bearings, pulleys, gas lines, piping, and waterlines, plus lubrication preventative maintenance.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an early-career industrial maintenance mechanic with 2+ years of mechanical/maintenance experience and demonstrated mechanical aptitude. They can perform smelter diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance across acid and converter-related process systems, including conveyors and hydraulic equipment, and can demonstrate basic welding proficiency.
