About this role

Anthropic is hiring a Staff+ Software Engineer, Backend to own backend systems that power Claude API and related products. You’ll lead architecture decisions, drive multi-team alignment, and ship scalable, secure backend platforms with strong developer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and optimize development infrastructure (dev environments, observability, CI/CD)
  • Build and maintain core infrastructure powering Claude API
  • Develop API capabilities and knowledge retrieval features
  • Enterprise foundations including permissions and security features
  • Drive developer experience and cross-team alignment

Technical Overview

Role focuses on distributed backend systems, cloud infrastructure across AWS/GCP/Azure, API design and gateways, observability, and multi-tenant, enterprise-grade infrastructure. You’ll work across API Core, Capabilities, Knowledge, and Developer Experience teams.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior backend/platform engineer with 5+ years of distributed systems and cloud-native experience, proficient in Python, Go, and Rust, and comfortable owning multi-cloud infrastructure and API platforms.
