About this role

Proofpoint is seeking a SPAM Data Engineer to join a global threat defense team. You will analyze misclassified emails, URLs, and attachments, develop detection rules, and build tooling to stop spam, phishing, malware, and email fraud at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and respond quickly to spam/Phishing/Malware/BEC attacks
Analyze misclassified emails and develop detection rules
Develop tools and automation to aid frontline analysis
Work on customer escalations and on-call monitoring
Collaborate with other engineering teams to improve detection capabilities

Technical Overview

This role emphasizes data engineering for cybersecurity: scripting with Python/Perl, Linux-based analysis, regex-based detections, and integration with ClamAV/Yara for signature-based threats; you will handle email header analyses and on-call incident work.
