Sr. Dir, Design Infrastructure

As a senior design leader at GitHub, you will redefine Primer as an agent-native design system that supports both humans and AI agents. You lead governance for accessibility, usability, and quality while driving cross-functional alignment across Design, Product, and Engineering.

• Define and lead evolution of Primer into an agent-native design system
• Establish standards for accessibility, usability, and consistency across human- and AI-generated interfaces
• Drive alignment across Design, Engineering, and Product to meet real product needs
• Build and enforce quality governance and guardrails
• Lead and scale a multidisciplinary team and manage managers

This role is focused on systems-level design infrastructure: evolving a component library into an AI-compatible, agent-ready platform with primitives, patterns, and guardrails. It emphasizes integrating the system into developer workflows and ensuring design intent translates into code, with success measured via adoption, efficiency, and quality metrics.

The ideal candidate is a senior design leader with 12+ years of experience in product, platform, or systems development, who can transform a traditional component library (Primer) into an agent-native, AI-compatible design system. They bring strong governance for accessibility, consistency, and usability across both human- and AI-generated experiences, and they can align Design, Product, and Engineering to translate design intent into code. They are also proven people leaders who can scale and manage a multidisciplinary organization.
