About this role
Sr Engineer - Transmission & Substation Protection Analysis provides operational and protection-focused analysis support across transmission, distribution, and substation automatic operations. The role analyzes abnormal conditions and protection failures, supplies fault location information for 69kV+ and critical 34kV operations, and supports operations with risk prioritization and power quality/claims investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide fault location for 69kV and above and critical 34kV automatic operations (trip and reclose or lockout)
- Review and analyze protective relay event records to determine fault type and protective relay performance
- Analyze protection system failures, provide root causes, and feed feedback to design engineering
- Serve as a single point of contact for risk analysis and prioritizing work related to degraded protection systems
- Support power quality and claims investigations and provide guidance on system alarm/degraded protection/event conditions
Technical Overview
This role centers on protection system performance analysis using protective relay event records. It includes immediate fault location support (trip and reclose/lockout), identification of fault type and relay performance, root cause findings with feedback to design engineering, and guidance on alarm and degraded protection conditions.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior engineer with hands-on experience analyzing transmission, distribution, and substation automatic operations and protection system performance. They can perform fault location (69kV+ and 34kV), review protective relay event records to determine fault type and relay performance, and provide root causes and corrective action recommendations to improve reliability and cost effectiveness.
