About this role
AWS is hiring a Senior Sustainability Scientist to develop scalable Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods and models that measure and improve the environmental impacts of AWS data centers and cloud services. The role involves research design, data gathering, uncertainty handling, and communicating science-driven results to support long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies
- Develop internal LCA models and forecasting methods for AWS infrastructure and services
- Conduct deep dives to identify and incubate emerging technologies
- Design research, gather data, and interpret results
- Create science-driven narratives within cross-functional project teams
Technical Overview
You will build LCA methodologies and internal LCA models, applying forecasting methods and data science to AWS infrastructure and services. The work requires strong knowledge of the GHG Protocol, carbon accounting practices, systems thinking, and interpretation of results from imperfect data using public data sources.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior sustainability science professional with real-world experience driving Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for products and services. They bring strong data science foundations for forecasting, deep familiarity with the GHG Protocol and carbon accounting, and first-principles understanding of cloud infrastructure.
