About this role
GitHub is hiring a Staff Engineering Manager to lead development of the GitHub Copilot AI inference platform. The role focuses on scaling inference infrastructure, improving experiment-to-production, and ensuring reliable, secure, observable operation at production scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and support technical roadmap aligned to product goals
- Facilitate cross-team communications and resolve dependencies/conflicts
- Guide design of scalable, secure, observable systems
- Champion experimentation and telemetry-driven development
- Own incident response and reliability practices to meet SLOs and drive postmortem improvements

Lead engineering for an AI inference platform supporting generative AI workloads at scale. Own orchestration frameworks, high-throughput service infrastructure, telemetry-driven development, and reliability practices including incident response, SLOs, and postmortems.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a Staff Engineering Manager with 9+ years of software engineering experience, who has led production teams building AI inference and generative AI serving systems. They bring strong technical leadership in distributed systems, orchestration frameworks, and telemetry-driven iteration, while owning reliability via incident response, SLOs, and postmortems.
