About this role
Technical Consultant – Video Codec leads client projects on video compression and IP monetization, analyzing codecs (AV1/HEVC/VVC/VP9), performing patent research, and supporting litigation matters. Travel up to 40% and collaborate with attorneys and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Associate Consultants on client projects involving video compression and video delivery technologies
- Own delivery of patent analysis and IP monetization research related to video codecs and video processing
- Analyze, reverse engineer, and test implementations of video codecs and related pipelines
- Design and execute test benches to evaluate codec behavior, compression efficiency, rate–distortion performance, and standards compliance
- Review specifications and reference software for video coding standards and map technical details to patent claims
Technical Overview
Scope covers video compression standards and testing, with hands-on work in C/C++, Python, MATLAB. Tools include ffmpeg and VMAF; familiar with HDR pipelines and standardization activities.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior technical consultant with 3-5 years of hands-on video codec experience, proficient in AV1/HEVC/VVC/VP9, and strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, and MATLAB. They should be capable of leading projects, communicating complex topics effectively, and traveling up to 40%.
