Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager leads transportation operations at a branch, managing private fleet and common carriers to achieve operating plan goals and cost savings. The role manages a team of supervisors, dispatchers, and drivers, ensuring safety, DOT compliance, on-time delivery, and capacity readiness for volume surges.

• Provide transportation leadership and deliver annual operating plan and cost savings objectives
• Manage safe, effective transportation operations including after-hours support
• Optimize private fleet dispatch to maximize DOT HOS and reduce cost per mile
• Ensure DOT compliance and coach safe driving techniques
• Manage capacity planning to support a 20% surge in volume

This is an operations leadership role with heavy emphasis on transportation planning and execution: dispatch, lane sourcing, route guide compliance, route optimization, DOT Hours of Service (DOT HOS), fuel economy, payload efficiency, and wait time reduction. The manager also coordinates capacity solutions using private fleet, common carrier, or dedicated carriers and monitors payroll accuracy and transportation team performance.

The ideal candidate is a transportation operations leader who has managed both private fleet and common carrier transportation at a branch location. They have strong experience with DOT compliance and Hours of Service (DOT HOS), route and lane execution, and meeting on-time delivery and cost-per-mile targets. They also lead dispatch and driver teams while managing hourly payroll accuracy and handling unionized transportation driver requirements when applicable.
