About this role
The Welder (2nd Craftsman) supports refinery maintenance by performing certified welding and related metal fabrication, repair, and maintenance on fixed equipment and piping systems. The role emphasizes safe, environmentally compliant work and collaboration within a unionized, team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform certified welding, cutting, and fabrication on refinery equipment
- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld procedures
- Operate SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment
- Execute welds per Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and quality requirements
- Comply with safety procedures (hot work permitting, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hazard communication) and complete documentation
Technical Overview
You will interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld procedures to determine job requirements and proper weld processes. The technical scope includes operating SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment, working to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and completing welding documentation and quality records.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a certified welder familiar with refinery maintenance work, able to perform welding and metal fabrication on fixed equipment and piping systems. They can interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and P&IDs, and operate SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment in accordance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). They are strong on safety compliance, including hot work permitting, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and hazard communication.
